Rex Orange County dropped his new album WHO CARES? on March 11 following his announcement earlier in the month that he was coming back to Australia after three years.
Rex recorded his new album alongside musician Benny Sings over the course of a few sessions in the latter’s Amsterdam studio. The pair had previously worked together on the 2017 platinum-selling single ‘Loving is Easy’. The album also sees Rex reunited with Tyler, the Creator, who features on ‘OPEN A WINDOW’. They previously collaborated on Tyler’s 2017 album Flower Boy.
The tracklist for the new album is as follows:
- KEEP IT UP
- OPEN A WINDOW (feat. Tyler, The Creator)
- WORTH IT
- AMAZING
- ONE IN A MILLION
- IF YOU WANT IT
- 7AM
- THE SHADE
- MAKING TIME
- SHOOT ME DOWN
- WHO CARES?
WHO CARES?, the fourth studio album by Rex, is a softly spoken mood booster that is great for getting into a happy, chilled out vibe.
The music in his new album hasn’t changed much since his older albums, but it keeps with his aesthetic of chilling out in the bedroom listening to music. It works with his ‘bedroom pop’ feel.
His songs are gently alight with positivity, like a soft candle illuminating a darkened room.

There’s no big moment for Rex Orange County in WHO CARES? but this album feels like it can get away without that. He’s consistent enough with his music that fans feel like they know what to expect from new music.
That’s not to say he doesn’t need a breakthrough moment in his music; something with that bit of a punch in the music would be enough to keep audiences excited without his music feeling like it’s too repetitive. For now, it’s enough. In the future though, it may not be.
