Did you hear the one about the No Doubt bassist, the stalker, and Heath Ledger? Sometimes headlines really do write themselves.

According to TMZ, the band’s bassist Tony Kanal last week reportedly obtained a restraining order against an alleged stalker. The person in question is said to have repeatedly intruded on Kanal’s Los Angeles home and for a very specific reason: he claimed that the late Heath Ledger was still alive in the home.

The legendary Aussie actor died back in 2008 but previously owned the property where the stalker intruded. As per Berg Properties, Kanal bought the home for just under $3 million in 2005, three years before Ledger’s passing.

The stalker supposedly claimed that they used to live in the home with Ledger. On at least one occasion, they terrorised Kanal and his family while brandishing “a large stick and a knife”, according to legal documents pertaining to the case.

At one point, the stalker allegedly asked to be allowed into the home’s garage in order to “wake” Ledger. They also supposedly threatened Kanal’s family by saying, “if you know what is good for you, you will let me in.”

A judge reportedly signed the restraining order on Friday, April 1st, which means the stalker must now stay 100 yards from Kanal, his family, and the home until a hearing is held later this month.

Kanal joined the No Doubt lineup in 1987 and has remained ever since. The pop funk icons last released an album in 2012 with Push and Shove, reaching number eight on the ARIA Albums Chart and number three on the U.S. Billboard 200.
Kanal has kept busy in the music industry since the release of that album, performing in the new wave supergroup DREAMCAR alongside AFI’s Davey Havok. They dropped their self-titled debut in 2017.
