The Deftones recent gigs in Australia while they toured with the Big Day Out all went off smoothly, but things got a bit sticky when the band cancelled a gig Bangkok last week. The gig which was to be held at the 25,000 capacity Thunder Dome in the Thai capital, was originally delayed from the advertised 8pm start until 9:30 pm when organisers announced that it was cancelled.
Pissed off fans then rioted, throwing bottles and glass, ripping up seats and venue furnishing and smashing venue windows. The reason for the cancellation are unclear, but the supposedly piss weak excuse was that the band’s manager didn’t think the stage was up to standard and – wait for it – that the band’s equipment was not compatible with Thailand’s electricity voltage.
