King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard have announced a long-awaited homecoming tour.

The psychedelic rock veterans have announced an Australian tour in support of their latest (amongst many) album, Phantom Island, which will take them to Sydney, Brisbane, and Melbourne this December.

But this tour comes with a twist: four shows will be orchestral shows, led by conductor and musical director Chad Kelly, and three shows will be “rock n’ roll shows”.

This highly anticipated homecoming marks King Gizzard’s first performances in Australia in over two years.

The orchestral shows feature 29-piece ensembles from Australia’s most acclaimed orchestras in prestigious venues. Sydney Opera House will host performances with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Brisbane’s Princess Theatre will feature the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, and Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl will showcase Orchestra Victoria with Folk Bitch Trio opening.

Complementing these orchestral performances, the band’s full-length rock shows will take place at Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall, Sydney’s Enmore Theatre, followed by a tour-closing performance at Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne. Party Dozen will support them in Brisbane and Sydney, while Barkaa will join them in Melbourne.

Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday, May 23rd at 10am AEST. The artist pre-sale begins on Wednesday, May 21st at 10am AEST. Melbourne fans also have the added option of purchasing a discounted two-night bundle to experience both distinct shows at Sidney Myer Music Bowl.

The tour will follow the release of King Gizzard’s 27th album, Phantom Island, which is scheduled for release on June 13th via p(doom) records.

“A lot of love and time and energy and patience and growth went into this one,” wrote lead singer-guitarist Stu Mackenzie on about the record Instagram. “Can’t wait to grow wings and fly with all of you.”
