Yungblud lit up London’s Leicester Square overnight for the world premiere of Yungblud: Are You Ready, Boy?, the feature-length documentary set to hit cinemas worldwide later this month.
Hosted by Rock Sound, the premiere saw the British rocker — real name Dominic Harrison — arrive at the Vue West End flanked by his parents, Justin and Samantha Harrison, plus friends, crew, and the film’s creative team, including director Paul Dugdale. Among the famous faces in attendance were music legend Joan Armatrading, Anne With an E star Amybeth McNulty, rising artist Nieve Ella, The Molotovs, and Louis Starkey.
On the carpet, Yungblud reflected on what it took to bring the film to life. He called the journey “crazy” and said his “bucket list” choice for director had always been Dugdale because he knew the filmmaker would tell the story with “truth and authenticity.”
“You have to be willing to allow the uncomfortable and the scary to be shown to the world,” he said. “In a world where everything is so ‘TikTokable’ and ‘Instagrammable,’ this is a film about imagination, and about allowing humanity and insecurity to shine. We need more of that in the world—if we’re all a bit more real, we might be a bit more connected.”
Yungblud added that the film was about showing what it takes to make an album of IDOLS’ ambition. “The whole point of going to Hansa Studios and making this album was about relinquishing a pedestal, walking amongst giants and seeing if you can do it. It’s also a story of friendship and love. My team and I come up with mad ideas in a room and somehow they happen. We’ve never had a hand up — it’s more like a kick in the face every time — so being here in Leicester Square is pretty cool.”
Filmed at Berlin’s legendary Hansa Studios, the birthplace of David Bowie’s Heroes and U2’s Achtung Baby!, the documentary is a mix of personal diary, creative process, and pure rock-and-roll chaos, set against the backdrop of a city steeped in counterculture.
“I wanted to make a film that truly documents where we are right now, at this moment, around the release of my most ambitious album to date,” Yungblud shared in a recent statement about the film. “Berlin has always radiated complete, unfiltered truth. Every time I’ve visited Hansa Studios, it’s just fucking iconic. You can feel the history in Hansa; it’s in the silence between takes, the ceiling looming over you. You’re standing in the shadows of all these legends and asking yourself ‘Who the fuck am I? And what am I gonna leave behind?’”
