Brisbane favourites Bugs have announced two very special hometown shows to celebrate the release of their forthcoming fourth album, Head Noise

The band will take over Crowbar Brisbane – a venue that has been a core part of the band’s history over the years – on Thursday, September 10th and Saturday, September 12th, marking their first live performances since last year’s ‘Saving A Bug’s Life’ fundraiser for Brunoli.

Tickets will go on sale at 8am (AEST) on Thursday, August 20th. See here for details.

The announcement comes just days after bassist Jordan Brunoli shared a devastating update about his battle with stage four colorectal cancer. “Unfortunately I have a mutation that causes rapid growth of tumours, and none of the treatments have been able to stop the cancer from spreading. I am now entering the final chapter of my life after being told in June I had a prognosis of 3-4 months,” he wrote on Instagram.

Head Noise, which Bugs have been working on for the past two years, has been made throughout Brunoli’s cancer treatment, including while he recovered from surgery and underwent chemotherapy. The album, due for release on August 28th, has been his priority – along with returning to the stage – in the time he has left, he said.

“After a year’s worth of treatment, there are no more viable medical options for me and I have begun to enter the final chapters of my life. That’s why the release of Head Noise means so much to me,” he said. “The two year writing and recording journey somehow encapsulates so many moods, wins, losses and melancholic discussions…throughout all of which I could count on the fact that I was doing what I love, with those who have my back.”

Ball Park Music frontman Sam Cromack will join Bugs for the first night alongside Brisbane acts Supernew and Dirty Harry. The second show will feature Talk Heavy, VOIID, and Melbourne singer-songwriter Suzi, with Dune Rats also appearing for a DJ set.

Over the past ten years, Bugs have moved into the hearts of music lovers across the country with their bright and tender pop rock songs and joyful, community-driven live shows. Australia rallied behind their debut album Self Help (2019), voting bouncy hit single “Seriously” into triple j’s Hottest 200 list.

Their ever-iconic Like a Version cover of Mallrat’s “Charlie” broke into the Hottest 100 the following year at No. 91, and came in at No. 25 in 2023’s Hottest 100 Like a Versions of all time.

From sold out hometown shows and national tours, to playing Falls Festival and supporting Australian legends Grinspoon on their mammoth Chemical Hearts run in 2019, Bugs have become firmly woven into the fabric of Australia’s beloved music scene.
