You’ve only been to Australia three times now over your career – was it something we said?

Actually we only came to Australia to perform as a band twice! Though we always wanted to come back to Australia, we had some problems with the management, label, distributor and etc. for the Australian market.  Were we just unlucky? Or didn’t Australian want us for this long!?  Anyway, we were happy when we came back for Soundwave and will be happier if we can come back to do our own shows again soon…

Your seventh studio album “Renegades” was released midway through last year. What can we expect from this album? Any dramatic changes in the band’s sound?

With “Silent Cry”, the album before “Renegades, we had achieved a big and dynamic sound for both the album and our live performance. But we were wondering if we still had as dynamic and edgy a sound of 3 piece as we had when we started the band.  It wasn’t like going back to our old sound, but we definitely wanted to bring back the 3 piece band’s spirit and vibe…

Feeder has some incredible statistics to its name – 17 years, 25 top 40 hits, and single and album chart appearances in three decades.  What has been the band’s stand out release to you?

“High”, it still gives us a lot of good old memories…

There aren’t many albums out there these days that require you to listen to the entire album start to finish to get the whole picture. Are Feeder hoping to bring this type of album back?

We are kinda old school and we still love the whole concept of an Album. I bloody hope that there are still people listening to the entire album!?

What’s the story behind the album cover of “Renegades”?

Our designer came up with few different ideas for the album cover. That photo was one of them. It had such an attitude and stood out. “Renegades” may sound quite macho but she squeezes all these manly and macho images out of it and she is the leader of Renegades. Ha ha.

Your Facebook friends count increased to almost three times the number after the release of Renegades. Is this any incentive for you as musicians to keep releasing new music?

I guess that playing and creating music is what we do as musicians.  And we are lucky that we are still doing this after all these years. Though we don’t have a major label’s power and money, we have our own control and take care of our music…

Some may say you have a cult following. What are your thoughts on this? Do you think it’s necessarily true?

Fortunately or not we’ve never been in a kind of music trend. So, our fans are following purely for our music and we have lots of loyal fans.

What do you hope for the band in the next 24 months?

After this European tour, we will finish off our next album, summer festivals, releasing a new album, more tours…

Do you hope to release enough records from here to eventually release another “The Singles” album?

I don’t know… Another 7-8 years!?

After just finishing up their Soundwave festival shows earlier this month, you can pick up a copy of Renegades, which is in stores Australia-wide through Big Teeth Music / Shock.
