You would be forgiven for wondering what’s happened to singing wonder Megan Washington over the last few month. After bursting onto the scene with much fanfare the songstress has decided to keep a low profile whilst she attempts to make inroads in the USA.
“It was getting a bit aggressive. I don’t want people going, ‘Oh, her again’. Yucky. Bye bye. I still find it odd that anybody knows who I am” she says, speaking with News Ltd from her base in New York. She also says she’s already feeling homesick “I’m streaming Triple J every day for a fix of the accent,”
In December last year it was reported that Washington had finished recording a new group of songs with the intention of releasing them as her follow-up to debut I Believe You Liar which peaked at number 3 on the ARIA charts and went platinum. However she appears to have had a change of heart since then saying “That album’s gone to God, It just wasn’t the right thing. Had to get it out of my system. Now it’s gone.”
Instead she is now working a new project entitled Insomnia, which the singer suffers quite regularly. “It’s a work in four acts,” Washington says. “It’s a capture of the last year of my life. It’s divided into four parts. It’s a chronicle of my experience with insomnia and what happened to my brain. There’s eight new songs. Four pairs of songs. Each of the pair falls under one of the four chemical umbrellas,”
“Maybe there’s singles. I don’t know. It’s just a bunch of songs I wrote that I care about that are really, really, really, really, really truthful. You’re alarmingly truthful when there’s no sleep.”
Insomnia will be exclusively released in Australia from 21 October 2011. In the meantime check out the first track from Insomnia below
