Who are you and what do you do in your act?

SJ play bass in Coolies. Me Tarzan, you Jane, Tina plays guitar. We sing.

‘Fess up. What records have you stolen from your parent’s record collection and why?

Motown records, Tina and my dad’s were blue light disco DJs so that was our childhood: Chaka Khan, Stevie Wonder’s ‘My Cherie Amour’, Stylistics ‘Love Songs’, Blondie. All rule, all classics.

What’s on heavy rotation on your iPod right now?

Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens. I cry every night thinking about the crash. Breaks my heart.

‘Home taping is killing the music business was the catch-cry of the record industry in the 1970s, but it managed to survive until now. What do you think is the difference between mates taping copies of friend’s records back in the 80s and 90s and file sharing now?

Woah, slow down horsey, don’t even know ya.

You must answer this question honestly or we steal your rider. What was the first gig you went to.?Where was it and what was the venue?

First I went to was the first ever Coolies show at Grey Lynn Community Hall Get Set Go Festival. I was 14, totally kicked butt. The second show I went to was Coolies opening for Beastie Boys. Still 14 at high school. Nobody believed me!

What’s your favourite site to download music from and do you ever pay for it? Can we find any of your releases there?

Nah,weird I don’t actually download music. Friends send it or swap records, so not up with the future…

What artist made you want to pick up an instrument and/or sing?

I guess we all just did it outta being bored but bands like the Ramones, y’know, made it easy/fun. And then, like, the Bikini Kill/riot grrl movement gave it more purpose. Bands like Xray Specs/Fugazi keep it real. D.I.Y , Boredoms, Freekitten kept it experimental…

Have you ever been arrested?

Yeah, sure, teenage rampage. I (accidently) kicked in a window at a Dead Moon Show. The dude flipped out ..shit was crazy.

Do you have any particular ritual before you go on stage, or even a lucky charm you take with you?

Only ritual is tryna find the other two. Guess they’re my lucky charms, haha.

What’s been your most outrageous rider request?

We keep it simple: buds, ‘shrooms and doom.

Because it’s more fun to do things together, which living Australian artist would you most like to collaborate with? Tell us why?

The dead C.

Right, let’s get really intimate. Tell us what releases you have that we can listen to with the lights down low, or even better, where we can see you play in person next.
