Fans around the world couldn’t contain their excitement when in August this year it was reported that the original Black Sabbath lineup of singer Ozzy Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward, had headed into a rehearsal studio with plans on a reformation tour and perhaps some new material.
The next day Iommi issued a statement those sceptics amongst us expected after such sensational news, saying that he was saddended to be taken out of context by a local journalist and “was merely speculating, shooting the breeze, on something all of us get asked constantly, ‘Are you getting back together?'” Iommi’s statement was very carefully written however as whilst it gave the impression that no reunion was on the cards he doesn’t outright deny the rumours.
Now original singer Ozzy Osbourne has thrown his hat into the ring during an interview about his upcoming memoir with Billboard. “Yes, it’s a very, very strong possibility,” he said when asked about Sabbath reforming. “It’s in the very early stages, so we haven’t recorded anything yet. If it works out, it’ll work out. If it doesn’t, I’ll keep doing my thing.”
Fans have no choice now but to sit back and wait for more promising news. In the meantime both Iommi and Ozzy are gearing up for the release of their memoirs. Iommi’s book, ‘Iron Man: My Journey Through Heaven And Hell With Black Sabbath’ will be released in Europe on October 13 and in the US on November 1, whilst Ozzy’s book ‘Trust Me, I’m Dr. Ozzy,’ is due today.
