ABBA’s greatest hits album Gold: Greatest Hits has now passed its 900th week on the Official UK Albums Chart, making it the longest-running Top 100 album to ever exist. And honestly, it’s what they deserve.
‘Dancing Queen’, ‘Voulez-Vous’, ‘Mamma Mia’, ‘Fernando’, these are just four songs from the absolutely golden (no pun intended) pop/disco album, Gold: Greatest Hits. With a tracklist of 19 absolute staples in musical history, it’s really no wonder that ABBA has been able to cement themselves into modern-day relevancy.
ABBA’s Instagram page took to officially announce the news, announcing that Gold: Greatest Hits has in fact been in the Top 100 for over 900 weeks. According to an online converter, that’s like, 17 incredible years with this compilation album of our favourite hits.
ABBA Gold: Greatest Hits was officially released in 1992, and includes tracks that span the entire career of everyone’s favourite Swedish pop group.
With sales of around 30 Million copies, the compilation album is not only the best selling ABBA album, but also one of the best-selling albums worldwide, ever. And it’s really no surprise, have you ever seen a dancefloor when ‘Dancing Queen’ comes on?

Gold: Greatest Hits, from a critical music listeners perspective, has also been absolutely lauded with praise. Overall it has been called one of the most influential compilation albums to have ever been released. It has been individually cited by critics for the revival in interest in ABBA’s music after the band broke up in 1982, and there was a good period of time that people forgot about the band.
But what is your favourite track from the extensive collection of absolute lifetime-defining gems? Is it ‘S.O.S.’, the absolutely electrifying ‘Does Your Mother Know’, or maybe its the less obvious choice in ‘The Name of the Game’?
Either way, let’s celebrate this achievement for ABBA and hope for many more years to come. Here’s my favourite from the compilation album, ‘Does Your Mother Know’, but of course, every song is simply perfect.
