It’s the Australian music industry saga that seemed like it would never end and in a surprising turn of events, it now appears as though it’s still going.

Despite a month having passed since Eventopia finally committed to issuing refunds to Soundwave 2016 ticket-holders, some fans are still out of pocket and waiting on their refunds.

In the wake of Soundwave 2016’s cancellation, up to 50,000 ticket holders were out of pocket and neither the festival’s official ticketing provider nor promoter AJ Maddah would take responsibility.

After almost a week of buck-passing, Eventopia eventually conceded the onus of issuing refunds was on them, though they claimed they would continue to pursue Maddah for the sum that was advanced to him.

“Eventopia shares in the disappointment of festival fans at the cancellation of Soundwave 2016,” a statement read. “We are shocked by what we consider to be financial mismanagement on the part of the Promoter which has led to this outcome.”

“Eventopia is actively pursuing every possible legal avenue against Hounds of Hell Pty Limited and its director, AJ Maddah to recover the ticket sales monies that were advanced to Hounds of Hell Pty Ltd.”

“In the interim, to ensure fans are not disadvantaged Eventopia has sent an email this afternoon to all customers inviting them to apply for a full refund of their Soundwave 2016 ticket prior to January 31 2016.”

“The fastest way for fans to receive their refund is to email [email protected] Fans should include their order details, including name and email address that the tickets were purchased under.”

“Refunds will be returned to the original credit card used to purchase. Customers should expect to receive their refund within 21 business days from submitting their request.”

That statement was issued on 22nd December last year, but some Soundwave ticket-holders, some of whom requested their refunds over a month ago, are still waiting on their refunds.

Not knowing where to turn, one fan pleaded with Maddah via Twitter to help out. Explaining that she wanted to use the money to buy Bring Me The Horizon tickets, Maddah insisted he would try to help the desperate tweeter.

Sharing a screenshot of an email she received from Eventopia late last month she wrote, “I bought 3 tickets I’ve been refunded $150. I’ve emailed twice and was told I will have the money in 21 days. Still haven’t.”

And Twitter appears to be rife with similar stories. “An email said my refund would be in my account in 3-5 business days. That was 2 weeks ago I just want to know if I’m getting it,” a tweet addressed to Eventopia’s official account read.

Earlier this month, Maddah tweeted that Australians would “100%” have at least one Soundwave replacement festival launching next year, tweeting that either Legion Festival or potential expansions from Download Festival and/or Sonisphere could take Soundwave’s place.
