One of the biggest musical outfits in living memory, and creators of several songs we’ve all had stuck in our head most of our lives, America, have announced they will be celebrating their gold jubilee this year, and the 50th bash will be making its way down under.
If you weren’t across their generation defining hits such as ‘Ventura Highway’, ‘I Need You’, ‘Don’t Cross the River’ or ‘Tin Man’, then it was their timeless class Horse With No Name that would be your connective tissue to this band.
Throughout their career, America has amassed a respectable six certified gold and/or platinum albums and testament to their staying power, their greatest hits album, History, shifted a worthy four million units.
Also, absolutely noteworthy was the band’s seamless transition into a digital era. Whereas many of their peers had to add their bones to the pile, magic makers Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell rode the wave, attracting a stable 1.4 million plus monthly listeners on Spotify.
As such, the shows will be an interesting affair, pulling a crowd made up of three generations of America fans all in one room.
If you needed more proof America are still fighting fit, they’ve announced they’ll be in town for both a good time and a long time, locking in seven days that will put them all over our great nation. None of that ‘one and done’ anniversary nonsense we are oh so used to getting.
