2019 is set to be another huge year for fans of critically-acclaimed rapper Anderson .Paak, with the artist announcing his second album in six months.
Back in November of 2018, Anderson .Paak released Oxnard, his first full-length solo record in almost three years. An instant classic, the record scored widespread critical acclaim and resulted in .Paak heading back to Australia for Falls Festival over the New Year’s period.
Over the weekend though, Anderson .Paak excited fans by revealing that he was sitting on a veritable treasure trove of music he recorded with hip-hop icon Dr. Dre.
“I’ve made a lot of music with Dr. Dre,” he explained during an appearance on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon. “Like, probably two albums’ worth. Honestly, like, it’s music that I really feel like getting out.”
As it turned out, this appears to have been something of a teaser, with Anderson .Paak now announcing that his next album will be out in April.

Titled Ventura, Anderson .Paak’s new record is named after the same county that his hometown of Oxnard, California is located in.
“Growing up in Oxnard gave me the grit and the church to find this voice of mine,” he explained. “One town over I went further and found my depth.”
“The duality of each place inspired me greatly and from that I made two albums at the exact same time but held one back because that would have been too many songs to perform live for you all! I like ending things on an even number so welcome to Ventura.”
As it turns out, .Paak’s recent Jimmy Fallon interview alluded to more music of this calibre, explaining that “I think I got more soul music to present” at the time.
To celebrate this new record, Anderson .Paak is set to head out on his North American ‘Best Teef In the Game Tour’. While his teeth are indeed quite fabulous, international fans are undoubtedly wishing that this tour – which features the likes of Thundercat, Mac DeMarco, Earl Sweatshirt, Noname, and Jessie Reyez – would make its way to their neck of the woods.
While not much information has been released just yet, (such as whether Dr. Dre features on the new album), Ventura is set to be released on April 12th.
In related news, Anderson .Paak recently celebrated a well-deserved Grammy win, sharing the Best Rap Performance award for his track ‘Bubblin’. Check it out below.
