It’s been a minute since we heard from Angus Stone. The last time we saw him kicking about, he was with his sister as part of the inimitable duo Angus & Julia Stone at the behest of legendary producer Rick Rubin, who basically demanded the two reunite.
Those who only know Stone as a member of the sibling duo may not be aware of his considerable solo output, which has seen him put out releases under his own name (Broken Brights in 2012) and under the moniker Lady of the Sunshine.
Now, as triple j reports, Stone has linked up with The Walking Who singer Rohin Brown and Elliott Hammond, keys man for The Delta Riggs, to form a new project titled Dope Lemon and they’ve already got a debut full-length on the way.
Honey Bones, Dope Lemon’s debut LP, was mostly recorded at Belafontè Studios, a studio located on Stone’s farm, with additional recording completed in New York City and “in an industrial state in Byron”.
The trio shared their first single, a tongue-in-cheek nod to Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars titled ‘Uptown Folks’, on triple j over the weekend and you can definitely hear the influences of all three members combining to make a beachy indie number.
