Progressive metal cornerstones Animals As Leaders will take to Aussie shores in September to celebrate their 2014 album, The Joy of Motion.

The Washington-based trio will headline shows in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth from September 12th-21st, playing the entire LP which features hit songs such as “Kascade”, “The Woven Web” and “Physical Education”.

Despite lacking a vocalist, they shot onto the scene after their debut album released in 2009 combined metal, jazz and electronic influences and had them likened to colossal acts such as Periphery, Tesseract, and Meshuggah.

Throwing out the rulebook was just the start for Animals As Leaders, as following releases continued to grow their cult-like following and refined their experimental process leading to The Joy of Motion debuting at No. 23 on the US Billboard 200.

“I think it starts off as an idea, an aesthetic…that we want to try and achieve, an Animals As Leaders sound,” guitarist, Javier Reyes, told Tone Deaf after the album’s release. “It’s hard to say. I don’t think there is an overall goal. We try and write what sounds good to us, and what Animals As Leaders is to us, or just what we think it is.

“When we first started, we were trying to read critic reviews a lot because it was exciting that people cared. But I’ve definitely stopped caring about what critics say. We’re just trying to do what we do. We’re stoked that we can keep doing it and we’ll keep doing it as much as we can.”

Pre-sale tickets for the tour are available at 9am from Tuesday, April 15th, before general public tickets are made available at 9am Thursday, April 17th.
