Thrash metal icons Anthrax are getting ready to make a new album, saying they’re hitting the studio in just a couple of weeks.

Back in 2016, Anthrax released their most recent album, For All Kings. Since then, the band have spent their time touring the world, including a spot on Slayer’s farewell tour, and a spoken-word tour for Scott Ian. Now, it looks as though they’re getting ready to drop album number twelve.

Speaking to The Salt Lake Tribune last year, bassist Frank Bello explained that the band were hoping to start working on their new album at the start of 2019.

“There’s been, like, this rebirth of people noticing the band … and it makes you hungrier,” Bello explained. “This is a very, very hungry band, Anthrax.”

“Maybe it’s our New York mentality; I don’t know what it is, but there’s a very fierce energy going on within the band. We can’t wait to see what’s next. So, if anything, we’re just getting started, I think. There’s a whole new generation of kids and fans coming out. I think our fan base is growing big time.”

Apparently, the band had intended to start work on the new record last year, “but this Slayer tour came up, and you can’t say no to this,” Bello explained, noting January was now their new recording date.

Now, in an interview with The Metal Voice (via Metal Injection), Frank Bello explains that the band are set to hit the studio in a matter of weeks.

“Everybody has their own collection of stuff,” Bello began. “And Scott, Charlie and I will get together in two and a half weeks and we will start putting songs together.”

At NAMM week [in late January], that’s what I’ll be doing. I fly in on that Tuesday. Believe me, it’s a big schedule there, because I go back and forth to NAMM also, so it’s pretty crazy.”

“But during the day, I’ll be writing with Anthrax, and at nighttime, it’s Altitudes & Attitude stuff.”

“Anthrax is in a really good place,” Bello continued. “And I call this good for a record, because it’s an angry place. You just feel it.”

“And I’m very excited to see what we come up with, ’cause I don’t know yet. We’re just gonna bounce off of each other. I know what I have, and I’m sure everybody’s gonna bring it. But I know it’s an angry sense, which I like. It’s gonna be intense, I’ll put it that way.”

As Frank Bello says, his schedule is indeed rather big, with Anxthrax set to touch down in Australia just a matter of weeks later to play at this year’s Download Festival. There’s obviously no word as to whether any of their new songs will be ready to be given a live debut as yet, but we can only hope.
