Yes the headline is a bit tabloid, but there’s a real chance that the Arcade Fire won’t be doing a 50th anniversary tour a la The Rolling Stones or even doing gigs in 20 years time at your local RSL featuring two original members of the band plus a bunch of session musos. Why? Well, frontman Win Butler has revealed that he can’t see himself doing it in 10 years time. In a new interview, he’s said that “Pop music is a young man’s game.” Mulling over the future, Butler says “I can’t see myself doing this 10 years from now.” Fair play to him, rock n’ roll is a young person’s game and kids, mortgages and other responsibilities tend to get in the way – even if you are one of the biggest bands in the world. Carrying on too long and not knowing when to call it quits has also bedeviled many artists – but we’re happy for you to keep playing Win – even if it’s just for another ten years: longer than most great bands have ever lasted.
