Three handwritten wills have been discovered in the Detroit home of Aretha Franklin. Franklin passed away last August of pancreatic cancer, she was 76.

The most recent will is dated March 2014, it leaves Franklin’s assets to her remaining family. It has been noted that the writing on the will is difficult to decipher, with four pages featuring crossed out words and phrases in the margins. Two of the handwritten wills were discovered in a locked cabinet after a key was located. The 2014 will was found in a spiral notebook under cushions, confirmed David Bennett, an attorney for Franklin’s estate.

Bennet, who was Franklin’s acting lawyer for over 40 years, filed the wills on Monday. As The Guardian notes, he isn’t certain whether they’re legal under Michigan law. A hearing is scheduled for June 12th.

Bennett said the wills were shared with Franklin’s four sons or their lawyers, but that a deal wasn’t reached on whether any should be considered valid. A statement from the estate said two sons object to the wills.

The will has been shared with Franklin’s four sons and layers, but a consensus is yet to be reached as to whether any of the wills should be considered valid. A statement from the estate has stated that two sons object to the wills.

Sabrina Owens, an administrator at the University of Michigan, will continue to serve as the estate’s personal representative.
