On Monday night, Kris Roe, frontman of American emo band The Ataris, was involved in a high-speed police chase… sort of. Roe was in Hollywood on Monday night (Dec. 17) when a stolen Dodge charger that was under pursuit struck the musicians van head-on.

The crash sent Roe’s 10-tonne van into the parking lane. Roe shared a post on The Ataris’ Facebook page detailing the incident:

“Tonight I was an innocent victim of a high-speed chase. Some lunatic flew around the corner in Hollywood. He was being chased by multiple police cars. Travelling at high pursuit driving recklessly in a supposedly stolen car. He slammed straight in into me head on at full speed. He was travelling so fast that he sent my 10 ton Van from the outer left lane into the parking lane. He was travelling with such force that the centre engine console detached and shot forward into the van ramming into my leg. I feel lucky to be alive.”

It wasn’t just Roe’s car that was propelled by the impact. The crash sent Roe’s french bulldog, Gracie, flying out of her seat. Roe feared that his Gracie had lost her life but he found her unharmed in the rubble. He shared “I thought she must be dead from the impact. It was the most helpless feeling….. but I couldn’t believe it, she was ALIVE!!! I am in tears thinking about it.”

Roe revealed that the collision caused the van to smoke. He and Gracie were forced to escape the vehicle through the window.

The action doesn’t stop there. Once Roe and Gracie were safely out of their smoking truck, they were in the midst of an active crime scene. They were surrounded by police with their guns drawn. Roe was ordered to stand back from the scene, so he retreated to the curb. In the most heartwarming end to a story, a homeless man offered him a chair and blanket.

“It’s nice to know that compassion exists in this world. I’m super thankful to be alive tonight. Merry Christmas. Never take one second for granted.”

We’re so glad to hear that both Roe and Gracie escaped the debacle alive and well.
