Athletic Bilbao showed how to celebrate a cup final victory properly when some of their players formed a one-off AC/DC cover band.

The Basque football men surprisingly beat one of the biggest clubs in world football, Barcelona, 3-2 in the Spanish Supercopa final after a nail-biting game that ended with a winning extra-time goal. It was only their second trophy in 36 years.

With the game taking place in the Southern city of Seville, many hundreds of miles away from their hometown, the Bilbao players were unable to celebrate the historic win alongside their own fans.

What do you do in that situation then? Hastily form an AC/DC cover band of course. ATH/DC if you will.  Twitter account The Blizzard shared the endearing footage as several players headed to a hotel to unleash their brave live performance of the all-time classic ‘Highway to Hell’ (actually a popular song that’s often played in European football stadiums).

Replacing the hard rock legends were Dani García on drums, Óscar de Marcos, Mikel Vesga and Mikel Balenziaga shredding on guitars, Iñigo on bass, and Asier Villalibre taking over for Bon Scott on lead vocals.

Villalibre certainly had an interesting day especially. Before he brought the fire singing AC/DC, he successfully provoked the greatest footballer of all time, Lionel Messi, into swinging a punch at him which led to Messi receiving the first red car of his career. Rock ‘n’ roll!

It definitely sounds like a bunch of tired and overjoyed football players acting as musicians but, honestly, with live music being absent for so long, I’d still pay money to see this AC/DC cover band in action anywhere.

And who knows, maybe when it’s possible again, AC/DC might pop by Bilbao’s San Mames Stadium and perform ‘Highway to Hell’ with the players and show them how it’s really done.
