Last week, Tone Deaf wrote about the ‘unexpected remixes’ that have become so popular they even have their own section on Reddit. They’re an offshoot of the famous ‘Melbourne sound’ that’s exploded in recent years, but with a special twist.
Artists, including Brisbane duo Mashd N Kutcher, who are the forefront of the genre, have accrued millions of views on YouTube from making bouncy, inescapably catchy bangers from everyday found sounds like playing Mario Kart, electric toothbrushes, and rides in elevators.
Mashd N Kutcher managed to garner over 150,000 views with a snippet of a track built around a hook forged from the sounds made by the coffee machine in their studio. But the duo recently broke their own record for virality.
Their latest clip follows on from a popular vid that saw them performing an impromptu collaboration with their friendly Domino’s delivery man. This time around, the boys went around their local area, employing a 7/11 clerk, a deli worker, and a random jogger for their collab.
The catchy and incredibly dancey results, which readers can check out below, have managed to accrue an incredible 1 million views in just four days. Not bad for something culled from a day of riding around town with a microphone and a synth.
