As we head into summer, the venues and festivals beckon with all sorts of great gigs, and we’ve compiled just a few that you should have on your radar over the next week. From free club nights for indie fans, to the return of some local legends, this is how we want to be spending our first weeks of summer.
LOUD Thursdays

Are you an indie lover itching for a night out partying, but can’t stand the thought of hearing the same top 40 tracks playing in the clubs? LOUD Thursday is kicking off a night of the best indie, alternative and pop punk party anthems from 9pm to 3am.
Whether it’s The Killers and Twenty One Pilots or The Bennies and Blink-182, you’ll be in for a great night of dance floor fillers – and best of all, it’s free entry. Cheap drinks too, so if you’ve already blown out your Christmas budget, you’ll be set.

One of the best new indie rock outfits in the country right now, Letters To Lions are touring their killer sophomore EP Grays Point across the country soon, starting with a two-night hometown launch at The Chippo.
They won’t be going it alone though, and you’ll actually be getting a double-header with ex-Cairos frontman Alistar Richardson and his brilliant new alt-pop project Zefereli. Throw in local faves The Hideaways, and you’re getting a serious bargain.

Jack Rabbit Slim’s, Perth
Saturday December 9
Quite simply one of the best electronic acts in the country right now, Kllo are riding a wave of overseas buzz off the strength of their debut album Backwater, released earlier this year.
Melding elements of UK garage beats and incredible R&B vocals, the cousin duo are a must-see when they stride into Perth next month.

Pist Idiots

The Idiots have had plenty of chances to warm up for this one, with a recent tour with Skegss and a few 2017 festivals under their belt, and they’ve been honing their craft in the studio too, working with Bad//Dreems on their new EP.
Joined by mates Mini Skirt and Regular Band, this one’ll do exactly what it says on the tin, giving you a sweaty night of drunken rock in the cosy confines of the Black Bear Lodge.

Lime Cordiale

w/ Timberwolf and Gold Member
One of Sydney’s most beloved bands finally hit us with their debut EP Permanent Vacation last month, and are just wrapping up their national tour with a couple of Tassie gigs and a final stop in Townsville.
With a couple of great acts in support, this is a great chance to catch the Leimbach brothers’ wonderful brand of beachside indie pop in person, and soak up one of the best debut releases of the year in a live setting.

Nai Palm

Nai Palm’s work with the Grammy-winning Aussie champs Hiatus Kaiyote goes without saying, but if you haven’t heard her brilliant, stripped-back solo debut Needle Paw, then now is the time.
Almost entirely built of her stunning soul vox and a lone guitar, the record will no doubt shine on the intimate live stage of The Zoo, and the tour continues across the country throughout the rest of the month.

Cash Savage & Camp Cope

Sunday December 3
w/ RVG
Now this is a co-headliner we’re stoked to see, a one-off show that came about over a few beers and has given Melbourne a beautiful end to the year. Cash Savage and the Last Drinks have had a relentless year of touring, while Camp Cope have been continuing their sharp rise, selling out shows across the country.
Throw in RVG on support, and you’ve got a ripper gig that gives you the chance to hear Camp Cope’s next album ahead of time. Considering how good the first one is, that’s a good offer.

Off the back of an excellent debut LP Sponge Cake, not to mention a damn good set at Splendour in the Grass, the Sydney sextet are making their way around Australia, and the final show of the tour in ADL is a no-brainer, especially with collaborators Polographia in support.

Not content with hitting us with an excellent debut record this year, the Sydney rockers followed Alright Already with a new EP Okie Dokie last month, and decided to celebrate with their ‘Christmas In December’ tour – points for the name.
More points for the awesome supports in West Theb and DIET, two of our fave emerging bands right now, making for a seriously great night for PC’s hometown fans.

Baby Animals

One of Australia’s seminal rock acts of the ’90s, Suze DeMarchi & Co nabbed a #1 record on the ARIA charts with their self-titled debut LP in ’91, winning ARIA awards for Breakthrough Artist and Album of the Year in the process, and carried that success through to their sophomore LP Shaved and Dangerous two years later.
While they disbanded a few years later, the band had already cemented their legacy as one of the Aussie rock greats, and the reunited lineup is a must-see this weekend.
