The year 2015 is off to a flying start for live music lovers of Australia, one only need look at the brand new music festival that is hitting our shores later this year, however this isn’t the only new performing space that Aussies will see this year.
Sydney venue The Basement has announced that as of February it will relaunch it’s live music space, having just undergone a facelift and massive refurbishments, as The Music reports.
The grand (re)unveiling is set for Wednesday 25 February, the Circular Quay hotspot will see a brand new stage and a green room downstairs, with the upstairs area already fully renovated. Once the entire renovations have been completed The Basement intends to provide more dining, drinks and most importantly, live music to patrons.
In speaking with The Music, entertainment booker Nathan Farrell detailed The Basement’s plans to expand on the type of live music to perform, “we are planning to extend our offering dabbling, in some Comedy, Burlesque and some handcrafted nights, with our larger stage it should allow us extra scope to accommodate a variety of larger touring acts as well larger ensembles and performances.”
“We hope the improved production and renovations with the already solid reputation of the venue will enable us to program some truly unique events, host some of the worlds greatest artists and help create some truly memorable experiences” he said.
Venue co-owner David Wallace extended on this, “we are renowned for having a culture of promoting both classic well known artists as well as up-and-coming talent. We hope to further build on that and offer our guests a wide array of exclusive events and spontaneous epic evenings.”
Of course, The Basement is still currently operating, with the likes of Ratking, Emma Donovan & The Putbacks, James Bay and many more scheduled to perform at the adored Sydney venue in the next few weeks.
This is fantastic news for live music lovers of Sydney, let’s not forget the massive year of venues that opened in 2014 including Melbourne’s Little & Olver, Shadow Electric band room that powered into full-time, a Cuban themed pop-up bar named El Coco as well as the reopening of Brunswick’s Railway Hotel, in Sydney there has been the addition of The Roller Den, The Hub, The Lewisham Hotel and Bandroom(which replaced the FBi Social), while Brisbane has witnessed an explosion of great venues with The Brooklyn Standard, The Brightside, Woolly Mammoth and ex-Powderfinger member’s stunning refurbished WW2 hanger, The Triffid, not to mention the beautiful venue in the Blue Mountains.
