The Avalanches have today taken to social media to announce that they have officially begun work on album number three -a much quicker turnaround than we expected.

Taking to Instagram today, the Melbourne group shared an image of stacks of records in boxes, accompanied by a caption that simply read “LP#3 – Day 1”.

Back in May, the group announced that they’ve already begun writing for their third record, with the group saying they had been writing new material since their return from America. “It’s flowing so quickly,” they said. “I think getting Wildflower out of the way and following up Since I Left You feels like a weight’s been lifted. The music is really light, it’s some of the best stuff we’ve done.”

Now though, it seems like the group are starting to work on the musical side of things, with the wide variety of records that the group are delving into proving that their famous method of sampling the classics is set to be utilised once more for the new record.

While there’s absolutely no indication that the new record is coming out any time in the near future, the group have previously indicated that they don’t want to make people wait quite as long as they did for the last one.

So whether that means it’ll be out after only 15 years of waiting rather than 16, we aren’t sure, but we don’t really want another Chinese Democracy on our hands. So let’s starts hoping that The Avalanches’ new record comes to us sooner rather than later.
