They may not have performed together for almost 10 years, but Mike Love of the Beach Boys has hinted the iconic band could reunite for another tour next year.

December of 2021 represents the 60th-anniversary of the group’s debut, with single ‘Surfin’ dropping that month in ’61, followed by their first record Surfin Safari almost a year later.

In a recent chat with Rolling Stone, Love said he’s certainly open to the idea of playing more shows with Beach Boys, despite not having toured since 2012 when their 50th-anniversary tour wrapped.

“I’m not against anything like that,” he said. “Anything that’s creative and done for positive reasons is good with me. We will continue thinking about stuff like that and see what we can do.”

Beach Boys formed in 1964 with Carl, Dennis, and Brian Wilson, as well as Love and Al Jardine.

A 60th-anniversary tour featuring the band’s surviving members was initially floated by Jardine earlier in 2020. He told Chicago Concert Reviews that the tour “will happen” and that the band will “probably do about 20 or 30 [dates] together next year.”

The band’s members have been touring in two separate camps since the last tour, and although Brian Wilson’s manager told Rolling Stone that his client hasn’t been contacted about the possibility, Love remains upbeat.

“[Al] and I have spoken, but not about that specifically. Al’s a really good singer, but he’s been travelling and performing with Brian Wilson, [and] Brian has some serious health issues.

“We are in a very fortunate and blessed position to be able to do music for a lifetime. It’s pretty amazing. I can remember when my cousin Brian was a young boy. He sang ‘Danny Boy’ sitting on my Grandma Wilson’s lap. So that’s how far back we go musically.”
