Hudson Ballroom, the Sydney venue formerly known as Goodgod Small Club appears to have pulled up stumps.
Back in late 2015, the New South Wales music scene was shocked to learn that Goodgod Small Club was calling it quits. As it turned out, this decision was more of a behind-the-scenes change, with Plan B appearing in its place.
Soon, the venue was again renamed, and it became known as the Hudson Ballroom, where it became an inner-city hotspot for music-lovers to catch up, down a few beverages, and listen to some world-class music.
Now, it seems as though the future is looking rather bleak, with the Hudson Ballroom ostensibly calling it quits.
As Stoney Roads reports, Liverpool Street’s Hudson Ballroom appears to be gone for good, with a contractor at the venue informing them the location is being torn down.
Interestingly, the Facebook page for the Hudson Ballroom has also vanished, making it hard to gather any official information on the matter.
Earlier this year though, management for the venue revealed that the Hudson Ballroom was set to close indefinitely back in April for a series of renovations.
“Two-and-a-half years ago we took over this iconic live-music venue but due to several restrictions, we couldn’t renovate and upgrade this space,” a statement explained at the time.
“This made it really difficult but our priority was to ensure this essential live-music space lived on and we’ve been proud to be able to host an amazing list of artists that have performed here as well as some of the most lit club nights in Sydney.”
Owner Clark Max also explained the situation at the time to The Music (via Broadsheet), noting “It’s a heritage-listed building, so there are some extensive works to be done.”
“[We] are waiting for them to be completed before we can determine how long it will take for us to upgrade and reopen.”
While we wait for to any current word from the venue owners about, a) the Hudson Ballroom’s removal, and b) the future of the site, we’re left lamenting another loss to Sydney’s nightlife.
