Ben Folds is heading back to Sydney for a long-awaited reunion with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, 20 years after the two last performed together.
The singer-songwriter, composer and pianist will join the orchestra and Conductor in Residence Benjamin Northey at the Hordern Pavilion on February 3rd and 4th, reworking his genre-bending catalogue with full orchestral backing as part of a wider Australian tour.
The shows will mark Folds’ first performances with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in 20 years, following their original collaboration two decades ago.
“Sharing the stage with an orchestra as my band in an honour I don’t take lightly,” Folds said. “I consider them among the finest musicians in the world and together we offer audiences a musical experience like no other.
“As a student of the orchestra, I sincerely believe they are a shining example of what we can accomplish in society when we all work in concert and harmony for a greater good.”
The Sydney concerts form part of a broader Australian orchestral tour that will also see Folds perform with the Canberra Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.
An Emmy-nominated singer-songwriter, composer and pianist, Folds’ career has stretched from his work with Ben Folds Five through multiple solo albums, a holiday album and numerous collaborations. He also continues to perform with symphony orchestras around the world.

The Sydney performances will open the Sydney Symphony Presents series for 2027. Pre-sale tickets go on sale Tuesday, August 25th, with general public tickets available from Friday, August 28th. Tickets available online.
