The legacy of Black Sabbath is set to be immortalized in their hometown of Birmingham, England. The city will pay tribute to the godfathers of heavy metal in the form of a bridge and a bench.

The bridge is set to be located on Broad Street, a street that boasts the city’s Walk of Stars (a tribute to the famous people that have come from Birmingham).

The steel bench will feature images of the band etched into its surface with the words “Geezer. Ozzy. Tony. Bill. Made in Birmingham 1968.”

The city council will also complete their tribute to the band by awarding a star on the Walk of Stars to Bill Ward – the only member of Black Sabbath yet to receive a star. Other notable artists featured on the walk are Slade frontman and actress Julie Walters.

The project is lead by architect and Sabbath devotee Mohammed Osama, who has shared “My vision is to reunite the four original members for the unveiling of the stars and ‘Metal Bench’ (the crowning jewel of the whole project).”

The project is still awaiting approval from the city council, but it’s got guitarist Tony Iommi‘s approval, who tweeted about the plans yesterday.
