Amidst worldwide outrage at the death of George Floyd who was killed by police, guitarist Jake Pitts from glam metal outfit Black Veil Brides has spoken out on the protests stating, “we should not judge each other by race.”
A little over a week has passed since 46-year-old George Floyd died at the hands of Minneapolis police by having a knee pressed into his neck until he asphyxiated. This incident sparked worldwide outrage, and has caused many musicians across the globe to speak out.
We’ve seen Australia’s own Baker Boy address the Black Lives Matter movement, Lorde pen a letter detailing protests, and System Of A Down’s Serj Tankian speak out about President Donald Trump’s leadership throughout the past week.
Now, guitarist Jake Pitts from Black Veil Brides has taken to Instagram to voice his opinion on the matter, eloquently stating that “the amount of hate in this world is appalling.”

“I haven’t been able to find the right words to say about the current situation in our country,” he began. “I still feel like I do not have the words, to properly display the powerful emotions all of this makes me feel.”
In an act of encouragement to see past the race of individuals, Pitts stated: “All I know is we are all human, one race. We should not be divided, we should not judge each other by race, colour of our skin, religious preference, sexuality, or gender. The sad truth is this is a major major problem so many face on a daily basis.”
Even though he addresses that he is a “white man” who “cannot understand what [his] fellow brothers and sisters can and have experienced,” he still plans to stand alongside them, and fight for justice in the face of racism.
“I see such horrible things happening, and I wish everyone to find some peace. I wish Justice to be served properly. I wish for everyone’s pain and suffering to end.”
