The Blue Mountains Music Festival 2014 lineup has been announced and for the event’s 19th edition the organisers of the annual folk, roots, and blues event have brought together more than 40 local and international artists.
Taking place in the gorgeous mountain environs of Katoomba in the titular Blue Mountains region, the festival runs for three days between 14th to the 16th March in 2014, providing eight stages worth of the best in folk, roots, blues, and indie from both domestic favourites and international curios.
Headlining the Blue Mountains Music Festival 2014 lineup are three of Australia’s most acclaimed singer-songwriters, each stylistically diverse musician united in their internationally recognition.
Multi-instrumentalist and activist Xavier Rudd, the roots rousing Ash Grunwald, and carefully cultivated craftsman Lior will top the Blue Mountains bill, leading an Australian contingent that includes famed guitarists Jeff Lang and the virtuosic Slava and Leonard Grigoryan. There’s also the incomparable songwriting team of Eric Bogle and Eleanor McEvoy as well as a younger generation of talented acts including Jack Carty, Flap, and Mustered Courage.
Looking internationally, there’s plenty to enjoy on the Blue Mountains Music Festival 2014 lineup. Sharing the top of the bill is London based songsmith Rory McLeod, and all the way from mainland China, Hanggai, a six-piece act that first took Australia by storm at the 2012 Womad.
American bluegrass legend Peter Rowan returns to the Blue Moutnains Festival, bringing two of his expert peers with him, mandolin player Chris Henry and fiddle wizard Richard Greene. Canada’s all-female lineup of The Good Lovelies bring their unique touch to the Blue Mountains Festival 2014 lineup, along with fellow Canuck, the Juno Award-winning Rose Cousins, as well as new English folk sensation Blair Dunlop, New Zealand’s The Swamp Thing, and Japanese blues buffs George and Noriko.
“Every year we aim to bring a variety of talent to the Festival, to try and top the audience’s expectations from the previous year,” says the festival’s founding co-director Al Ward, who has curated the lineups of the Katoomba-based event with Bob Charter since its inception.
“We’re really happy to announce this year’s line-up that we think sets the benchmark for another great year,” adds Ward.
Tickets for the 19th Blue Mountains Music Festival are on sale from Friday 15th November at www.bmff.org.au/tickets.cfm, starting at $165 for earlybird purchasers – maintaining the same cost as the previous three years of the event.
