Suze Rotolo, who was Bob Dylan’s muse and girlfriend during his formative years as a songwriter when he was just one of any young folk singers trying their hand in the coffee bars of New York’s West Village has died of cancer lung cancer. She was 67.
She was featured on the cover along with the artist on the 1963 release The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan and spent three years in a relationship with him from 1961 during which she is credited with introducing him to the museums and art galleries of New York City, as well as furthering his interest in the civil rights music.
She is also credited with being the inspiration for early songs such as ‘Boots of Spanish Leather’, ‘Tomorrow Is a Long Time’ and ‘Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right’ and ‘One Too Many Mornings’. After a messy breakup with Dylan who was flaunting his infidelities with Joan Baez and others publicly, she moved to Italy for a period where she married her husband, who along with a son survives her.
