Hey! I’m Koko from Boys Boys Boys! We’re a bunch of brats from Perth who play synth pop rock and generally party harder than a 7 year old hyped up on red cordial. Our new record We Are Excited About Everything came out earlier this year so we’re about to head cross country to play some crazy gigs in Melbourne, Adelaide and our home town Perth. And a fresh new videoclip is on the way for our new summery single ‘Holiday’. Come party with us!!
You released you stupendously fun second albumWe Are Excited About Everything earlier this year, what sort of response have you had so far?
Super response so far! We’re all really happy with how the album turned out, so that’s reward enough already. But there’s nothing better than seeing your fans gripping your new cd in their hands with a big grin on their face :)
How did the album tour go down?
Playing shows for us is the raddest part, it’s always a giant party. I think the funnest show was down south in Bunbury where the local boys took off their shirts and jumped on stage with us, then threw on some girl-size Boys Boys Boys! tees. Gold. Go Bunners.
Any highlights/lowlights you can tell us about?
I bought a Banana costume whilst in Bunbury also!! So good. Also playing with our buddies Axe Girl, those dudes are rad to party with.
You’re back on the road next month to support your new single ‘Holiday,’ what do you enjoy about touring, and what elements are make it difficult?
Touring is so fun! You get to travel around with your friends, see new places and play shows to peeps who may not know who the heck you are. So it’s always a challenge to get people to party with us. But we’re up for it :) You can have those moments when all the traveling gets a bit tiring. But I just eat lotsa sugar, and then you get to party at your next show anyway! All good in the hood
Your live shows are renowned for being raucous and crazy fun, is it hard to keep the on-stage energy up on tour?
Haha, we are a crazy bunch on stage. I actually lose my breath occasionally from all the jumping around like a nutbag. But like I said, lotsa sugar!!! Once we get up there we just wanna party as hard as we can, and make sure the audience is down for that too. It’s our purpose in life to make y’all shake it! :)
You’ve played alongside some amazing artists in the past, which has been your favourite support slot and why?
We’ve been super lucky to play with some amazing acts. All our 90s childhood dreams came true though last year when we supported Venga Boys, but even more so with ……AQUA! My very first cd was Aqua ha :) I’d always adored them like the dork that I am. And they were absolutely INCREDIBLE live. Totally exceeded my expectations, and also super nice! Also rad to play with our buddies and heroes Regurgitator!
Have you incorporated anything you’ve seen from these performers in you own shows?
The general party vibe, yes definitely. We love bands who don’t take themselves too seriously and just wanna have fun like us. I’m also influenced heavily by my obsession with dance sequences in 90s pop videos (ie the Spice Girls etc), so we added that ridiculous, synchronized dance element to make things more of a show. So us girls get to dance for you, yay!
It seems your upcoming dates will place you guys in the middle of party atmospheres – playing Melbourne on Melbourne Cup eve before heading back to Perth for the WAMI festival. Do you guys just go around looking for the biggest parties to join in on? Or does the party just follow you?
We hunt that party down :) but I’d like to think we punch you in the face with it too haha. Melbourne cup eve I expect to be pretty outta control for sure. It’s gonna be a messy night. But in a good way ofcourse. And Wamis is always a huge party over here, can’t wait! Might even get the banana suit out, who knows ;)
Thankyoooou! :)
