The wondrous, mystical island that is Tasmania is growing more popular by the day as music festival destination, whether it be the lush PANAMA, the brand-spanking Party In The Paddock, art rock experiences MONA and Dark MOFO or the mainstay of Marion Bay Falls, and now there is a new player to the game, Electrona 7054.
Electrona 7054: An Ode to Suburban Sprawl is Hobart’s newest festival, in which the inaugural instalment of the three-day contemporary music and arts festival will take place from February 27 – March 1 and is set to showcase the best of Tasmanian and Australian digital artists and musicians.
The name derived from Hobart’s fringe suburb Electrona, a prototypical product of Australia’s suburban sprawl, plays with the modern Australian lifestyle. The festival is being staged across three disused and underground venues in the Hobart CBD, all of which have an emphasis on digital art, music and film.
The unique venues, and myriad of artists and musicians create a visual, spatial and audio experience that synthesises the old with the new and the suburban and urban landscapes. Electrona 7054 celebrates the rise of digital art and music in suburban and popular culture.
