Bring Me The Horizon’s recent Australian tour announcement has apparently put frontman Oli Sykes into a bit of a mood, one that can be gauged somewhere between run of the mill internet troll and menace to society.
First there was that whole thing where he trashed Coldplay’s table at the NME Awards, though he later insisted it had something to do with the PA system at the venue and not with Coldplay allegedly stealing BMTH’s artwork.
Most recently, Sykes gave fans of BMTH a collective conniption by tweeting out a fake gig poster. To understand how this all went down you have to start at the beginning, when Sykes shut down his personal Twitter account last month.
Announcing that he would no longer be using the official Oli Sykes account, the singer informed fans that he would henceforth be tweeting from the Drop Dead clothing account, which is associated with his fashion label.
As Alternative Nation reports, this morning Sykes tweeted a fake tour poster announcing the UK leg of pop superstar Justin Bieber’s world tour, which would apparently feature support from Zayn Malik and Bring Me The Horizon.
Bring Me The Horizon fans didn’t take the “news” well, nor did the internet’s fairly sizeable army of Beliebers, who tweeted things like, “Isn’t Bring Me The Horizon a fucking emo band from middle school?”
Sykes was eventually forced to delete the tweet (apparently under threat of litigation), writing, “Apparently Zayn’s legal team cant take a joke… everyone can stop crying now, Bieber & BMTH won’t be sharing a stage anytime soon.”
Interestingly, Sykes didn’t totally rule out BMTH sharing stage time with Justin Bieber and keyboardist Jordan Fish recently told Rolling Stone, “We don’t listen to extreme deathcore anymore. We still like some heavy music, but I also like Justin Bieber.”
