British India are set to wave goodbye to their longtime guitarist Nic Wilson with a national tour later this year.
Ever since they first formed in high school back in 2004, British India have been one of the most exciting Aussie bands on the scene. Whether it’s on stage or on in the studio, fans have adored every move the group have made, but now, it’s time for them to shake things up a bit.
Announced today, guitarist Nic Wilson is set to hang up his iconic red Gibson SG at the end of January, when he retires from music completely.
“British India is something we started as snotty nosed high school kids, that became something much bigger and more important to people than we could have ever expected,” explained Wilson. “The three lads in the band were the three best men at my wedding and the three best men to play a part in in my life.”
“We decided on everything together as children to adults and proved that democracy can prevail when done right. I was lucky to share every terrible Tarago road trip with them laughing hysterically as the road disappeared behind us. I was lucky to share the stage at first playing to nobody and then playing to thousands.”
“And I was lucky to live out the dream a 12-year-old version of myself pined for daily,” he concluded. “To play music to people who cared. For that – I thank you. But time moves on and I have other things I want to try my hand at and I am ready to see what else I can do.”
Of course, the rest of the band aren’t going to let Nic Wilson go quietly, chucking a huge national tour to give fans a proper chance to say goodbye.
Kicking off in November, British India are set to go all over the country, delivering stunning shows before they wrap up with a headline show at Melbourne’s Corner Hotel. But that won’t be all, with the band then heading out in January to play all dates on the Under The Southern Stars Festival.
This will be the last chance for fans to see the original lineup of British India in action, so if you’ve ever found yourself humming along to ‘Vanilla’ or ‘I Said I’m Sorry’, you won’t want to miss out on these shows. Tickets to these shows go on sale from 9am on Wednesday, September 26th.
