It’s quite often that due to our proximity to the rest of the world, Australia misses out on a lot of crucial pop culture events. However, that won’t be the case with Western Stars, the Bruce Springsteen co-directed documentary set to the backdrop of his latest album of the same name.
It’s been confirmed that the film will cop a well-deserved global roll out and Australia is on the list.
Western Stars, The doco see’s Springsteen meander through the track list of the latest album, from start to finish, with the added flavour of some classic jams to boot. Rather than replicating the album verbatim, the doco sees Springsteen backed by a live orchestra. the doco will also feature archival footage and original score composed by Springsteen who has personally narrated the film.
By the sounds of the trailer, Springsteen has a hell of a lot on his mind.
Western Stars will be the co-directional debut alongside serial collaborator Thom Zimny. Zimny has already proven his mettle to Springsteen fans having directed Springsteen on Broadway as well as two video clips from the current album cycle for the title track and Tucson Train. Furthermore, he copped a Grammy for his role directing 2005’s Wings on Wheels: The Making of Born to Run.
Western Stars the movie will debut next month at Toronto International Film Festival but come October, will enjoy a more thorough, global release.
Per TMN, Springsteen revealed on the E Street SiriusXM radio program that he knew he wouldn’t be taking the album on the road, but was eager to bring the songs to life, somehow, for the fans, explaining “I knew we weren’t going to tour, so I was looking for a way to get some of the music live to (the) audience, so we figured this was the best way to do it.”
