A building in the US was evacuated recently after a ‘suspicious package’ turned out to be nothing more than a cassette by Journey.
Up until the turn of the century, cassettes were undoubtedly one of the most popular formats for listening to music. Less unwieldy and technologically-advanced than their vinyl and CD counterparts, the format may have waned in popularity over the last couple of decades, but it still boasts a dedicated fanbase.
However, it seems as though there are some folks out there who might need a bit of musical reeducation, after a cassette tape was mistaken for a bomb in the US recently.
As US news station CBS 17 reports, police were called to the Duke Energy Building in Charlotte, North Carolina on Tuesday, where a “suspicious package” had been discovered.
The call reportedly came just after 6am, where employees from the mail room has discovered “a small manila envelope”, which featured a handwritten, out of state address.
Following a response from both the K-9 unit and the bomb squad, the package was investigated, and determined to contain only a cassette by US rockers Journey.
Of curse, if you’re thinking this is a pretty big overreaction, it’s worth remembering that this incident comes in the wake of a series of pipe bombs being mailed to various critics of US President Donald Trump.
Thankfully, this incident turned out to be nothing more than a false alarm, but it seems that there’s probably one person in the Duke Energy Building wishing they purchased their elusive Journey cassette from someone who does a better job of packaging their mail.
