One of Australia’s most beloved beers, Carlton Dry, has gone all festive on us, offering up a take on a Christmas classic to help get you into the silly season.
Think back to your favourite Christmas carols for a minute, what do they all have in common? That’s right, they’re all sung from a very Americanised point of view. Sure, the weather outside might be frightful for all of those in the northern hemisphere, but what about us sweltering Aussies?
Well, now there’s a brand new Christmas carol on offer, custom-made for us festive locals as we tend towards December 25th.
Give the new Christmas anthem a spin on Spotify:
Performed by the Carlton Dry Christmas Orchestra, Australia’s beloved beer offers up a far more relatable carol than those previously made available, created for all of those who “know things are dire when they’re playing Mariah”.
Destined to serve as a small beacon of hope in the competitive Christmas chart period, Carlton Dry have released their new anthem with the prime objective of ensuring that Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ doesn’t make it to number on the Australian Spotify streaming charts in the week approaching Christmas.
Sure, Mariah Carey might have one of the most iconic Christmas songs of all time, but how often have you found yourself voluntarily giving it a listen, thinking about how festive you’re feeling after a play-through? If you’re anything like us, that’s a bit of a rarity.
Originally recorded by Andy Williams back in 1963, this new take on a classic offers up some updated lyrics for the modern Australian, replacing tales of “carolling out in the snow” and “kids jingle belling” with much more relatable lyrics that bemoan workplace hookups, car park traffic jams and of course fights in the kitchen about politics and religion.

“We know there are plenty of Aussies out there who aren’t terribly stoked about Christmas and are getting a touch over listening to the same songs about a ‘perfect’ Christmas every year,” explains Carlton Dry’s Associate Director, Hayden Turner. “This song is for them.
“And in the spirit of some healthy Christmas competition, we’ve made it our only Christmas wish to dismantle Queen Mariah’s throne, even just for one day.”
So how do you help Carlton Dry knock Mariah off the top of the Spotify charts? Well, all you have to do is head on over to Spotify right now and be sure to give the newly-released track plenty of spins to ensure it shoots right to the top just in time for December 25th.
