Australia’s music industry is growing every day, spearheaded by a myriad of talented men and women who work hard to put our fair nation on the world map as a desirable musical destination, and in a brilliant new initiative, there’s now an online space dedicated to celebrating the ladies within the expanding industry.
The new website is entitled One of One, and it aims to publish interviews with the women of the Aussie music scene from artists, managers, label heads, bookers, publicists, radio personalities, publishers, lawyers, tour managers and many more.
Having only just launched, the fantastic site already has profiles and interviews of nine very different women within the industry, including Mushroom Music Publishing’s head of A&R Linda Bosidis, Triple J publicist Gerry Bull and recording artist Airling.
Founded by Sarah Hamilton and Vader Fame (Ditto Music) and Joanna Cameron (AIR), One of One stemmed from a discussion over lunch about women in the music industry who they felt deserve recognition for their hard work and contribution to the Australian music scene.
“We wanted to create something positive and highlight what some women are doing, and selfishly, we wanted to find out more about how they operate, their advice and experiences, and how they got to where they are. We hope that both men and women can get something from the site – whether that’s to be inspired to follow what they want to do in music, find insight into how these people and companies operate, or just an interesting read on the tram,” says Sarah Hamilton.
“One of my main motivations for the site was to create a resource for those who are in the early stages of their career, whether they be studying the business or interning at a music company. I wanted a platform to be able to say – “hey, there’s this woman doing a kick-ass job as a tour manager, let us tell you about her!”, says Joanna Cameron.
Interviewing women from all backgrounds, locations and fields within the industry means One of One will provide a variety of features and discussions. There is also a function to nominate a colleague, so people can get in touch and recommend women from their workplace, or women who they feel deserve recognition for what they are doing, if you’d like to nominate someone, send ’em through to [email protected].
