The pair previously worked with the star on the Mamma Mia! sequel in 2018, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.
“Gary and I are thrilled to be working with Cher again and this time bringing her empowering and true-life odyssey to the big screen,” Craymer said in a statement following the news.
“One cannot help but be drawn to and inspired by Cher’s larger than life talent, fortitude, unique wit, warmth, and vision. Her unparalleled success in music film and TV has inspired generations.”
“We could not be happier to tell her story to cinema audiences.”
More recently, she starred in documentary Cher & The Loneliest Elephant, following her fight to save an elephant living alone at the Islamabad Zoo to the safety of a Cambodian sanctuary.
“It can get exhausting being Cher, especially when you’re older and you’re still doing the same things,” she told PEOPLE in 2018.
“But I still have a great time. To have the stamina, and also to have the audience … You forget that people just do regular jobs that they don’t get applause for.”
