If The Queens Gambit had you experiencing a chess renaissance, this news should truly tantalise your competitive board game taste buds. Chess The Musical will be making its way to Australia, and it has enlisted the help of a number of beloved Aussie musicians.
Chess has been kicking around since 1986. The production features music penned by Swedish pop icons, Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus of ABBA. The Cold War-era romance is set in the early 1980s and chronicles a complex love triangle between two grandmasters, one American and the other Soviet Russian, and their fight for the affections of a woman.
Rogue Traders frontwoman and musical theatre stalwart (Grease, Rent, Love, Loss, and Chicago) Natalie Bassingthwaighte will star in the leading role. She’ll be joined by Rob “Millsy” Mills, Paulini, Alexander Lewis, Mark Furze, Eddie Muliaumaseali’ and a number of other much-loved Australian musicians.
Chess The Musical will kick off late April in Melbourne before heading to Adelaide in May and Perth and Brisbane in June. Tickets for the spectacle go on sale on Tuesday, February 9th at 9am. You can find all the dates and ticket information below.
