Childish Gambino has wrapped up his final tour of Australia by delivering a very special Like A Version to his local fans.

Back in 2015, Childish Gambino touched down on Australian shores to perform as part of the annual Listen Out Festival. While here, he decided to head into the triple j studios to deliver a special cover of Tamia’s ‘So Into You’ for their Like A Version sessions.

As it turned out, this would be one of the biggest events in Like A Version history, currently serving as the most-watched cover on YouTube, with close to 27 million views to date.

Needless to say, fans were a little bit disappointed when Childish Gambino’s 2016 tour coincided with the Christmas period, meaning that no new cover would be forthcoming.

However, with Donald Glover recently wrapping up what is said to be his final tour of Australia just last week, he decided to hit up the triple j studios to deliver one very special cover.

Not being aired as part of the weekly Like A Version broadcast, Childish Gambino recorded a rather unique cover for his Aussie fans, delivering a rendition of Chris Gaines’ ‘Lost In You’, backed by his live band and choir.

For the uninitiated, Chris Gaines is the Brisbane-born musician whose sole studio album, The Life of Chris Gaines, was released back in 1999.

Of course, that’s what we’re told happened. In reality, Chris Gaines was an altar-ego of Garth Brooks, who decided to take a break from country music in order to don a wig, pen some ballads, and try his luck in the world of pop rock.

As it turned out, it was a rather disastrous affair, with the whole Chris Gaines thing becoming a footnote in musical history, and leaving some to wonder if anyone could help to revitalise the music that Gaines left us with.

Thankfully, Childish Gambino has heeded that call, delivering a beautifully soulful cover that will likely go down as one of the biggest, and most beloved in Like A Version history.
