Childish Gambino has premiered part of a new song over the weekend, with ‘Human Sacrifice’ appearing during a television commercial.
If you happened to be tuned into US television set on Sunday night (or Monday, for us Australians), then you might have been watching the Grammy Awards.
The 61st edition of the awards, it ended up being something of a big night for the likes of Kacey Musgraves and Childish Gambino, who both took home four awards.
While Musgraves took home Album of the Year, Childish Gambino’s ‘This Is America’ won Best Music Video, Best Rap/Sung Performance, Record of the Year, and Son of the Year, becoming the first rap song to win the latter.
However, if you weren’t blinded by the mesmerising amount of awards that Donald Glover’s Childish Gambino project took home, then you might have heard a new song in the commercials.
As Vulture points out, Google dropped a new commercial for their Google Pixel 3 phone, featuring Donald Glover in the starring role.

The commercial is specifically for their new Playmoji feature, and it shows Donald Glover dancing off against a Playmoji version of himself. While it’s rather endearing, and shows off Glover’s incredibly smooth dance moves, many fans were left wondering just what the song in the background was.
After some fans utilised services such as Shazam, it was revealed that they had just heard the official studio version of Childish Gambino’s new track, ‘Human Sacrifice’.
First performed live back in September, fans of Gambino had assumed that the track was actually called ‘Spirits’, until the setlist for his Pharos Experience in New Zealand confirmed its real title.
Now, with the studio version arriving in a TV commercial, fans are again wondering when the song will see an official release.
Of course, any new release is undoubtedly bittersweet, with Donald Glover revealing back in 2017 that his next album will be his last.
Likewise, with his current live dates being viewed as the last chances to see him live, it’s not clear if he’ll move onto new musical projects, or if his hip-hop talents will cease along with the Childish Gambino name.
Whatever the case, we’re still remaining very excited to hear new music from Childish Gambino.
