Mushroom Music Publishing, a subsidiary of Mushroom Group, Australia’s most successful independent publishing company, have today added 7-piece Melbourne indie alt – country band City Vs Country to their ranks, supporting the creation of a pioneering Australian music genre.
City Vs Country, are set to release the band’s first EP Don’t Over Think it on October 26th at Melbourne’s iconic Cherry Bar, on the heels of a successful single release titled Hookers and Philosophy at the Toff in Town on September 29th, currently sitting at 14 on the Triple J Unearthed indie charts, and 43 in the overall national charts.
Crafting their own brand of ‘alt-country’, the seven-piece have been coined as the love-child of a Springsteen, Cash and Dropkick Murphy’s ménage, on the set of a spaghetti western at a small-town football club.
Suffering from debilitating insomnia, the music and lyrics for City Vs Country’s songs are the sweat and tears of front man Merv Galer, who without musical training, translates his vision to a patient and dedicated band. Fellow members of City Vs Country include, Ricky Birmingham (drums), Dean Astrella (lead guitar), Terry Pietrosanto (acoustic guitar), Dexter Karpe (bass), Jesse Cooper (guitar), Matthew Paine (keys)
Don’t Over think it was recorded at The Studios In The City in Melbourne, Produced and engineered by Ben Ehrenberg (Shihad, Calling All Cars, Strangers), and mastered by William Bowden of King Willy Sound in Sydney (Gotye, Eskimo Joe, Ball Park Music).
