Bill Murray’s name is almost synonymous with comedy. From his early rise to fame as a cast member on Saturday Night Live, he quickly became a household name due to his appearances in films such as Caddyshack, Ghostbusters, and Groundhog Day. But now, Murray has announced plans to record and release his first musical album. Will he follow in the footsteps of fellow comedy legend Steve Martin and reveal himself as a bluegrass virtuoso? Nope, Bill Murray is surprising us all by releasing a classical music album.
As The Guardian reports, Murray has announced plans for a classical album, set to be released in the next few months. He will reportedly sing and perform literary readings for New Worlds, a chamber music collective led by German cellist Jan Vogler.
He’s also set to be singing the music of Stephen Foster, George Gershwin, and selections from the classic musical West Side Story. Alongside his vocal performances, there will also be spoken-work recitations of classic American poetry, including selections from the work of Walt Whitman, Mark Twain, and Ernest Hemingway.
While classical music might not be your cup of tea, let’s look at it this way, nothing Bill Murray can release will be worse than the Garfield movie was.
