The Communion Melbourne 2013 lineup has been announced, with a fine selection of emerging artists both local and international announced for the showcase.
Following on from Communion’s Maz Tappuni programming a mixtape exclusively for Tone Deaf, the October instalment of Communion in Melbourne offers a thrilling lineup.
Cutting edge UK indie folk band Bear’s Den top the bill, joined on the lineup by folk-cabaret iconoclasts The Tiger And Me, the unique troubadour tales of Grizzly Jim Lawire, emerging singer-songwriter Kate Martin, and last but not least, the Morning Peninsula-bred, Melbourne-bound Skipper.
The Communion music night has its roots in London, having operated there since 2006. Established by Ben Lovett (Mumford and Sons), Kevin Jones (Bear’s Den) and producer Ian Grimble (Manic Street Preachers, Travis,
Beautiful South), in it’s time it has nurtured the likes of Laura Marling, Mumford & Sons, Matt Corby, Matthew and the Atlas, Boy & Bear, The Staves, Ben Howard and Michael Kiwanuka to name just a few.
The night has now expanded to several cities throughout the UK as well as bases throughout the east coast of the US including New York and Nashville and more recently has taken to Australia, specifically Melbourne venue, The Toff In Town.
Already in its short time the Communion stage in Melbourne has hosted: Matt Corby, Fraser A. Gorman, Hayden Calnin, Ainslie Wills, Mike Noga, The Preatures, Sophia Brous, The Trouble With Templeton, I, A Man, Yacht Club DJs, Willy Mason, Thelma Plum, and many more.
Following on from the success of the April edition of Communion Melbourne – which featured the likes of India Bourne, Playwrite, Jordie Lane, Deap Valley, and Willy Mason – the latest showcase, to take place at The Toff In Town in Melbourne on Sunday 20th October is set to give another rousing spotlight to emerging, developing and established artists.
