It’s time to get out the old fanny packs, crop tops, dungarees and bandannas, whack on a couple of slap bracelets, and feed your Tamagotchi, because thanks to Bring That Beat Back, the ’90s are back baby!

MJR Presents are presenting Bring That Beat Back, a tour with an absolutely incredible lineup perfectly tuned to satisfy every single nostalgic musical craving you might have this October. Whether you’re a fan of ‘90s music or just a music lover in general, Bring That Beat Back is going to be unmissable. My walkman is buzzing with excitement as we speak.

Everyone’s favourite clock-clad, reality television legend and music icon, Flavor Flav, will be the host of the evening, and if that isn’t indication enough that you absolutely need to buy tickets this instant, then the lineup will sell you over. I mean, the man gave Tiffany “New York” Pollard her nickname. He is absolute royalty.

And he’ll be joined by the hottest string of ’90s acts, all in one room. Bobby Brown and Bell Biv Devoe will be performing together, ‘This Is How We Do It’ performer Montell Jordan will be bringing the heat, Blu Cantrell is coming by the ‘Hit ‘Em Up Style’, All 4 One will be ready to make us sway along to the legendary ‘I Swear’, and Young MC will be busting a move.

Not a single second of this lineup is going to be anything short of iconic. Most of these artists haven’t swung by Australia in years, so now is your best chance to catch them all in the one place. We simply couldn’t pass up the opportunity to speak to some of the legendary performers at Bring That Beat Back, so here are some interviews we did with members of this star-studded lineup.

Montell Jordan

Performer-turned-pastor, Montell Jordan is best known for his era-defining hit ‘This Is How We Do It’. Growing up in South Central LA, Jordan found refuge in the church choir where his gospel upbringing shaped his unique RnB style that we simply cannot get enough of. ‘Get It On Tonite’ and ‘Somethin’ 4 Da Honeyz’ cemented his place in the scene.

How do you feel about being considered an undeniable ’90s legend by fans across the world?

I am honoured to be in the conversation of music considered to be legendary from the ’90s. To have a national hit record is a big deal; to have international hit songs and a 20+ year career is a huge accomplishment I am grateful to have experienced.

Are there any acts on the lineup that you yourself are excited to see?

Many of the artists on this show are not only my peers but also my personal friends. They are my musical family, and partnering with them to perform down under allows us to share the gift of music in one of our favourite places on Earth!

BTBB is looking to be the hottest ’90s party in a long while, what are you most excited for in this event?

I am most excited to introduce a new song to my Australian friends and fans. I have released my first single in over 10 years and I’m eager to perform not only my hit songs but my newest single, ‘When I’m Around You’ featuring Lecrae, with those who are long-time fans of my work.

What is your favourite thing about ’90s music?

’90s music was not just about hit songs, but artistry. Fans could connect with an artist whether they had a song out or not. I appreciate the realism and content of music from the ’90s era, and although it was sexier and edgier, the music still had LOVE at the core of the topics.

Which of your songs are you most excited to perform to an eager Australian audience?

‘This Is How We Do It’ is not only one of the biggest songs of my career, but also in the top 100 greatest party songs of the century! (according to Billboard Magazine). I never get tired of performing this song, because even 25 years later, it still feels like the first time, every time.

When was the last time you performed in Australia and what are your thoughts on Australian audiences?

My last trip to Australia was in 2016 and it is one of my very favourite places on the planet. Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane, Adelaide, New Zealand… I don’t think we will get to all those places this time, but that just means we will have to come back again! My new single can be located on my website!

How do you feel about being considered an undeniable ’90s legend by fans across the world?

It’s an amazing feeling to travel halfway around the world and be welcomed with open arms. People that I have never met from another continent appreciate me and my music. I am truly thankful for that. I don’t consider myself a legend, but it is definitely nice to know that I made an impact with my music.

Are there any acts on the lineup that you yourself are excited to see?

I’m excited to see Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky and Mike. I haven’t seen those guys perform together in decades. I’m also excited to see Blu Cantrell. I’ve done dozens of shows with Montell Jordan and over 100 shows with All 4 One. It’s always a pleasure to share the stage with my friends.

BTBB is looking to be the hottest 90’s party in a long while, what are you most excited for in this event?

I’m excited to see the crowds. The enthusiasm of the audience. There’s something in this lineup for everybody. It should be a party in every city we go to.

What is your favourite thing about ’90s music?

’90s music is special to me because that was the decade that hip hop established itself as a genre in popular music. Also, many artists in other genres were influenced by hip hop and those artists started releasing music in the ’90s. It was a great decade for music and I am proud to have been part of it.

Which of your songs are you most excited to perform to an eager Australian audience?

I have a remix of my song ‘Know How’ that I performed only in Australia. I love seeing the crowds response to it.

I performed in Australia in 2017. It was my first time visiting Darwin and Brisbane. The audiences were incredible. I jumped at the chance to come back. I’m really looking forward to it.
