After more than two decades, Canadian alt-country icons Cowboy Junkies have revealed they will be making their long-awaited return to Australia early next year.

Back in 1986, siblings Margo, Michael, and Peter Timmins teamed up with Alan Anton to form a new group called the Cowboy Junkies. Recording their first album in their kitchen, the group soon became famed for their humble, blues-rock sound, and found themselves a voracious following in North America.

Recording their second album inside Toronto’s Church of the Holy Trinity, the aptly-titled Trinity Session went onto become one of the most beloved Canadian albums of all time, with the band’s mix of original material and covers shooting them to fame around the world.

Continuing on into the ’90s, the Cowboy Junkies eventually visited Australia back in 1999, touring in support of their Miles From Our Home album. Since then, the years have continued on but Aussies have not been graced with a return visit from the band.

Now, more than 20 years later, the Cowboy Junkies are set to return to our shores in 2020.

Kicking off in May of next year, the band are set to head out on a five-date tour of the country which will see them visit Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Sydney, and Brisbane, performing an array of tracks from their highly-acclaimed back catalogue, ranging from The Trinity Session to 2018’s All That Reckoning.

A tour that has is undoubtedly many years overdue, this will be a highlight for many fans who have found themselves travelling overseas to catch this legendary band performing live.

Tickets to the band’s upcoming tour go on sale from 10am on Friday, August 9th. Check out all the details below.
