Overlords (and lady) of brutality and macabre, Cradle Of Filth have revealed plans to return to their legion of Australian devotees later this year, locking in a run of dates set to honour their one of their seminal releases, 1998’s Cruelty And The Beast, performing the record in full.

A concept record for the ages, Cruelty And The Beast is a deep exploration of Hungarian Countess and mass murderer Elizabeth Báthory de Ecsed. Born in 1560, Báthory holds the dubious title of Guinness World Records’ most prolific female serial killer.

While the exact number of her victims was never confirmed, legend has it that during her spree, Báthory imprisoned, tortured and murdered 650 young women. The spree came to an end in 1609 with Báthory’s arrest and imprisonment.

As well as sheer walls of sonic assault and brutality, Cruelty And The Beast also features three chilling but stunning instrumental tracks and narration from Ingrid Pitt, Polish-British actress, author, and writer known for her contributions to classic horror films throughout the ’60s and ’70s.

Known for her Vampire-esque tendencies, and often compared to the likes of Vlad The Impaler, Elizabeth Báthory de Ecsed is nothing if not the perfect subject of a extreme metal concept album.

And the fans agreed. Upon its release, Cruelty And The Beast would appear in charts all throughout Europe, breaching the top 50 in 6 different countries.

The band are making it very clear that this won’t happen again, so if you wanted to immerse yourself in the blackened worked of macabre, best get your affairs in order now.
